About Us ##############################################
Our horses are the most natural athletes you will find anywhere. They almost train themselves!! Now Standing 2 AQHA Stallions
Stud Fee: **** Mare Care: $10/day Sire of Nate Shilabar (aka "HOT SHOT")-Shown above w/ Janet Stover. Hot Shot is also the Top Money Earning Barrel Horse of the Decade as reported by "Barrel Horse News". Shilabar Gold is ranked 16th amongst some VERY tough competitors in the Top Money Earning Sires!! Shilabar Gold only had 18 foals registered to him by 1999. Those 18 were out of just 6 mares!! He now has just 36!! "Hot Shot" was number 5. Since there are so few foals by this stallion, and the market is by no means "flooded", their value is far greater. Call or email to have your own! Shilabar will be 30 years old this spring...take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity! **NO LONGER STANDING** Standing a Cremello son of Shilabar Gold in 2007 pictures coming soon. Lightning R Quarter Horses is a family owned and operated horse ranch located in Mullin, TX. Robert and Rusty Smith have bred, raised, and ridden numerous horses to the paywindow. Their bloodlines are truly unique and versatile winning numerous playday championships, trophies, ribbons, buckles, saddles....you name it--THEY'VE WON IT!! Lightning R horses are also proven competitors in 4D and Open Barrel races as well as several roping events. Although Robert and Rusty are still riding, they also have children and grandchildren raking in all the awards on numerous horses. These horses are amazing! The horse pictured below is a 10 y/o gelding being ridden by Skyler Smith (2 y/o) and led by his own father, Curtis. This horse runs/wins all events in the adult classes and then is quiet enough to let the little ones compete also. "Slim" is just an example of the temperment and ability of the horses produced on the Smith's place. Slim carries Rusty and Tracy to the winner's circle quite often. Tracy Smith, daughter-in-law, actually learned to ride on Slim and has been competitive since she first stepped into the stirrup. Slim has also played a huge role in helping Amber Porter (Smith's Granddaughter) to her recent full ride-rodeo scholarship to college in Weatherford, TX. Amber's main horse is a "bull-dog" built, roan mare nicknamed, "Roany" (Red Lady Rebel). "Roany" is also a FULL sister to the above stallion, Camptowns Regal Red. The pair placed third in the Youth 1D of the 2004 Cowboy Nationals (NBHA) in Abilene, TX with a 14.796 (the Open 1D was won with a two day average of 14.645). Amber also won the Youth 4D which pulled in her 5th championship saddle on a 7 y/o Lightning R mare, "BeBe" (Our Birthday Baby) pictured below Also check out "Our Links" and the College Rodeo page! You will see Amber's name quite a bit! Amber ended her Freshman rodeo season from Weatherford, TX going into the College National Finals in good standings. She also won the BIG ONE at the College Invitational Rodeo at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in 2005. The team placed 4th in the 1D at the finals in the Texas State NBHA in Waco in July, 2005. She and Roany have just began thier Sophomore season and are starting off STRONG! Below is Lindsey Tatum on her 4 y/o grey mare out of State Of Excitement. Lindsey just recently won her first ALL AROUND saddle in Copperas Cove, TX. This is one little cowgirl that is hard to beat on her Lightning R horses!!
